NorthRadar vs Gartner Digital Markets
Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice sell vendors two things: clicks from category listings, priced by auction, and leads qualified by phone advisors. They now belong to G2. NorthRadar runs seven comparison sites and sells leads too. The difference is what arrives: a click or a shared form fill versus a named person with the vendors they compared and a consent record.

If you sell to small businesses in a high-volume category, the directories' click volume is hard to beat and conversion beats most cold sources. But a click tells you nothing about who clicked, bids start at $2 and climb past $20 in competitive categories, budgets cannot be paused until next month, and the lead product is shared with competitors. NorthRadar is the buy when you need to know who compared you and want a fixed placement rather than an auction.
A fair summary, in our words.
Vendors bid on software categories, not keywords, in a second-price auction with a $2 minimum bid and a $500 monthly minimum. One campaign syndicates across Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice, which Gartner's media kit put at 9 million-plus visitors a month across 60 localised sites before the sale. The pay-per-lead program delivers buyers who booked a free advisor consultation, matched to vendor criteria. An intent tier, formerly Buyer Discovery and now sold as B2B Intent, adds account-level identification of anonymous visitors and was folded into G2 Buyer Intent in June 2026. G2 acquired the three sites from Gartner in February 2026 for about $110 million, and their legal pages now name the unit G2 Digital Markets.
Where the data comes from decides everything else.
Field by field: what lands in your CRM from each.
What it costs, as far as either side publishes it.
Clicks are auctioned per category; agencies report a $2 floor, $0.25 increments and a $500 monthly minimum, none of which appear in the service description itself. Observed costs run $2 to $10 a click and past $20 in competitive categories. Advisor-qualified leads are reported at $70 to $250 each. Vendr puts average Capterra spend near $260,000 a year at the top end. Budget pauses take effect the following month and invalid-click credits are decided case by case.
Leads are priced per lead rather than by auction, qualified against your spec, with out-of-spec leads replaced. Per lead for syndication, per send for dedicated email; data and activation quoted by category. Our published rates are in the FAQ below.

Grou Global playbook
- Conversion to opportunity from directory clicks beats nearly every other cold source, even at higher CPCs.
- Capterra's own B2B Intent reviews average 4.1 across 35 reviews, with praise for surfacing accounts already researching.
- Software Advice leads close at around 10% in one vendor's account.
- You want raw click volume from the largest software directories and can convert on your own site.
- You are in a high-volume SMB category where CPC bidding works.
- You want phone-qualified leads and accept the cost per lead and the sharing.
- You want to know who clicked, what they compared and whether they came back, not just that a click happened.
- You sell into mid-market and enterprise, where a named committee matters more than volume.
- You want a fixed price per qualified lead rather than an auction whose price you cannot pause until next month.
Keep the directories for volume in your SMB categories. Add a NorthRadar lead program in the categories that matter to your larger deals, and use the named leads to work the accounts the directory clicks came from but never identified.
Questions buyers ask when comparing us with Gartner Digital Markets.
Is NorthRadar cheaper than Capterra?
They are priced differently. Capterra is an auction per click, from $2 a click up to $20 or more in competitive categories. NorthRadar sells named, consented leads at a fixed price per lead. Ask for a plan for your category.
What does a Capterra click tell me?
That someone clicked your sponsored listing in a category. The click report shows clicks, cost and category by date; it carries no visitor identity. You learn who they are only if they convert on your own form.
Are Software Advice leads exclusive?
The pay-per-lead terms do not cap how many vendors receive a lead, and vendors report leads being shared with competitors who also pay. NorthRadar leads are delivered to the vendor whose program recorded them.
Do NorthRadar's sites get comparable traffic?
No single NorthRadar property is the size of Capterra. The six together cover 400+ categories and a 25 million total addressable audience built over eight years, and the pages rank for comparison and alternatives queries in their categories.
Does NorthRadar qualify leads by phone?
Leads are qualified against your written spec using recorded behaviour and the opt-in data. Phone is on the lead where held. Out-of-spec leads are replaced.
Can I run both?
Yes. Many vendors keep the directories for volume and add a NorthRadar lead program in the categories that matter to their deals.
